Just A Card

“If everyone who’d complimented our beautiful gallery had bought ‘just a card’, we’d still be open”

Have you heard of the Just A Card campaign? I hadn’t until recently, but it really resonates with me!

Just A Card was founded by Sarah Hamilton, who read the above comment from a shop owner who had recently closed doors. Sarah decided something needed to be changed, so started encouraging small purchases from local businesses and makers.

Often we visit handmade shops & market stalls, and feel awkward that we can’t afford the big things, or perhaps the items aren’t really to our tastes. A graciously simple way to give support is to buy a card!

Mountain Biking Flinders Island offers a ride around the wild foothills of Mt Strzelecki.

Recently I had the absolute pleasure of being a guinea pig for new island business Mountain Biking Flinders Island. We completed the Ride Strz track, which follows the southern coast of Flinders, in the shadow of Mt Strzelecki. Β (Top tip: the mountain is pronounced “Strezlecki”. The name is of Polish origin πŸ™‚

Mel Telfer: Flinders Island artist & maker

This is the first in a series of posts about the artists and makers on Flinders Island. Β Please indulge me as I introduce myself as the first maker!

Tell us a little about yourself:

My partner grew up on Flinders and always wanted to come home again. When our girls were young we moved here, and it’s been fantastic for them to grow up in this incredible community. When I was a child we moved around a fair bit, which I think has contributed to my restless nature. Every few years I seem to move house, change jobs or find another way to shake up my daily life!
